For six years METROCON has satisfied the Southwest region’s need for innovation by featuring Exhibitors that cater to the corporate, hospitality, healthcare, residential, institutional, education, and retail design fields. This year’s tradeshow is expected to attract over 250 diverse manufacturers and service-oriented companies filling just at 425 booths.

Not only will visitors be exposed to valuable services like specialized maintenance, audio-visual integration, storage and moving, and but they will also experience a multitude of cutting-edge products, which will include everything from the newest in soft- and hard-surface flooring to open office systems furniture and upper-end casegoods to advanced acoustical applications and security measures to the latest in window treatments for both home and business. Along with an outstanding tradeshow, METROCON offers attendees valuable continuing education.
Courses cover an array of topics, including web tools for designers and facility planners, state of the art green roof systems, interior speech privacy, and wayfinding for those with varied capabilities.
For professional, student, and industry members of ASID, IFMA & IIDA, the two-day tradeshow is free of charge, and there is a $35 flat fee to take any amount of continuing education and/or attend the keynote. For non-members, the two-day tradeshow is only $25, and there is an additional $75 flat fee (for a total of $100) to take any amount of continuing education and/or attend the keynote.
This year’s keynote address, “Tapping the Positive Power of Criticism,” will be given by author and consultant Dr. Deborah Bright of Bright Enterprises, Inc. Dr. Bright will teach industry members to master the art of candid, constructive criticism to build stronger internal team relationships and loyalties, thereby creating happier, more productive employees and a more profitable business. Dr. Bright builds upon a tradition of strong keynote speakers addressing a range of topics impacting the built environment and those who develop and maintain them.
Past speakers include Susan S. Szenasy, Editor-in-Chief of METROPOLIS magazine; James Weiner, AIA of Collaborative Project Consulting; Christopher Hodges, P.E., CFM, IFMA Fellow, LEED AP of Facility Engineering Associates; Annette Stelmack, ASID of Associates III Interior Design; Kendall P. Wilson, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP of Envision; Ray Anderson of Interface, Inc.; David Oakey of David Oakey Designs; and Lloyd Princeton of Design Management Company.
On the evening of Thursday, August 14, METROCON will wrap up its first successful day of business with an energetic cocktail party featuring hors-d’oeuvres and live entertainment. Registered attendees will receive one free drink ticket upon entry, and attendees will be given the opportunity to turn in unused drink tickets, which will then be collected, counted and exchanged for cash to be donated to the METROCON Committee’s charity of choice.

METROCON is a resourceful alliance: a tradeshow and convention organized through landmark volunteer collaboration between the Texas Chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), the Dallas / Fort Worth Chapter of IFMA (International Facility Management Association), and the Texas / Oklahoma Chapter of IIDA (International Interior Design Association).
