The metroplex’s top Facility Managers and Associate Members were honored by the local International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Chapter on Thursday, July 9th at the
Addison Conference Center.
The black tie optional event, creatively called the “IFME’s”
(International Facility Management Excellence), was themed after
the Fountain Place Building located in Downtown Dallas with beautiful building replicas located on each side of the stage.

She was instrumental in the development of the lunch program at Metrocon 2008, bringing Green to the forefront of the chapter program. Lisa works with InNetwork magazine to promote IFMA and the FM profession. She has worked to develop programs for the event that would attract Facility professionals to the event. Lisa has also served on the PR committee working to help promote the chapter and build its membership. |

Terri has worked hand in hand with the membership committee to develop the website to provide a foundation for the membership drive. Terri has also helped to develop a mentoring program for new members to help them get their start in the chapter. |

Sherry Mettler has been a long-standing member of the chapter. Sherry has volunteered on the Programs committee and hosted two chapter meetings at her facility. For the last three years she has chaired the Awards Committee. Each year she has grown the event and created a special evening for our members, volunteers, nominees and award winners. |

|
Facility Manager of the Year Award:
Eric Mikes, CFM, PMP
Eric Mikes started with Fossil in December 2007 and realized that although the organization worked hard throughout the year, when they looked back they couldn’t see any tangible changes to the building, or operations. As a professional challenge, Eric decided the best way to show the organizations value to the team and to management was by developing a department annual report. This report highlighted the accomplishment of the organization from day to day operations to special projects and environmental programs. |

LEEDer Award:
JCPenney
Built on the legacy of their founder who believed in doing what is “right and just”, JC Penney is committed to being a good corporate citizen through the support of environmental, social and ethical initiatives.
Initiatives have been implemented for sustainability in new store construction including:
- High efficiency HVAC systems; reflective, R20-rated insulating white roof systems; and high efficiency lighting.
- Exterior brick manufactured through a waste petroleum by-products firing process: recycled ceiling tiles and carpet made from 100 percent recycled material. Additionally throughout construction, waste materials such as concrete, metal and drywall were separated and recycled.
- Use of low volatile organic compound paints, adhesives and sealants.
- Low and no-consumption plumbing fixtures throughout the store.
- Solar panel installations to generate the equivalent of 25 percent of each store’s total energy demand.
JC Penney was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as a 2007 Energy Star Partner of the Year for Energy Management, the first retailer to receive this award for energy management efforts. Building on this effort, approximately 800 stores will be equipped with an Energy Management System to provide remote monitoring of the store’s electrical and mechanical systems, lighting, store comfort and aid in identifying opportunities for saving energy. In one year, these efforts resulted in year-over-year elimination of close to 31,000 tons in greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally JC Penney has collected and recycled cardboard boxes and packaging at its stores and distribution facilities for more than 30 years. In a single year they recycled more than 95,000 tons of cardboard and 12,000 tons of hangers and other plastics. |

| Everyone had a great time at the IFME Award Program. Burt Copeland was the Master of Ceremony. The new Board of Directors was sworn in. The grand ballroom was decorated beautifully thanks to the Award Committee and a few more volunteers. The food was wonderful. Moods were high and the laughter was abundant. If you weren't able to attend this year's award ceremony, please join us next year! |
